Just after the start of the "UNENDING STYLE" tour in 1996, the S-I BRILLIANT -MIXEDMEDIA- made its debut on stage. (July 30th, the first day of Osaka Castle Hall) It must have given such a shock to the people who saw it, as we could almost hear the words "What the hell is that guitar?!" from the looks in their eyes. That very guitar was this first silver S-I; the first ever made prototype of the S-I BRILLIANT -MIXEDMEDIA-. When this guitar was first made, the S-I had a medium scale through neck structure, and had a Lace Sensor loaded on the pick-up. The 'guitar-art' image that SUGIZO always had in his mind came into being as this BRILLIANT -MIXEDMEDIA- thanks to SUGIZO's pursuitiHj into art and also due to the efforts of Mr. Hirano, who was in charge of SUGIZO at the ESP at that time and who also was a tour staff of the "UNENDING STYLE" tour. The actual trial manufacture started about a month before the start of the tour, and when it finally came into perfection after several tries, the tour was almost about to start and the band was in their dress rehearsal.dress rehearsal Resisting SUGIZO's feelings for wanting to use the guitar as soon as possible, this guitar was carefully adjusted and set up as it was brought around the tour, and it finally saw the light of day at the Osaka Castle Hall.

This is after the once broken head was repaired.

Because the Lace Sensor pick-up which was on this guitar was transferred to the second silver S-I, there is another pick-up used for the moment.

As a by-product of making the BRILLIANT -MIXEDMEDIA- with differently plated parts, they notice that the sound is different. ECLIPSE had always used a black chrome plated part since they had first began making, but when they used a chrome plated part in the BRILLIANT -MIXEDMEDIA- for the first time, there was a tendency for the high end of the harmonic series to increase, and also for the sound to get brighter. This is the reason why they later on changed the S-I to using black nickel plated parts. And so this guitar was used in the rest of the arena tour and caused a lot of sensation from the audiences, but on the first day of the "UNENDING STYLE -TO RISE-", on Oct. 20th at the Green Hall Sagami Ohno, the guitar ended its short life (just under 4 months) before the audiences' very eyes. The "UNENDING STYLE -TO RISE-" tour was taken over by the second silver S-I after that, and the tour was able to finish successfully. As you can see, the first silver S-I is back to shape again after repairing the broken neck, but the guitar never went back on stage after that.

After many trial-and-errors, SUGIZO and Mr. Hirano devised a technique where they burn the aluminum sheet before cutting. In this way, the BRILLIANT -MIXEDMEDIA- came to be even more real and grim, with deeper contrasts.
